Winter On The Farm

The snow is festive but presents a little more work in shoveling, plowing, and snowblowing. It seems like every morning brings a new layer to clear from the driveway, walkways, and around the barn. Still, there’s something magical about waking up to a fresh blanket of snow, especially when the trees are frosted and everything looks so quiet and peaceful.

On the bright side, winter brings plenty of outdoor fun. Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are favorites here, and with over 60 acres of open fields and wooded trails, there’s no shortage of space to explore. Did I mention snowshoeing? It’s a beautiful way to take in the scenery and get some great exercise. The horses seem amused watching people trudge past them in the snow — they often stand by the fence as if supervising the activity. Their calm presence adds to the charm of the winter landscape.

We’re planning to mark and groom some dedicated cross-country ski trails this year, making it easier for guests and visitors to glide through the terrain. The snow has come early and often, so it looks like we’re in for a great season of outdoor adventure. We’ll be keeping our gear handy for spontaneous outings.

Right now, the entire property is covered in a thick layer of white, and although we’re dreaming of spring, the photos will have to wait until the thaw begins. I’m leaving space on this page for those sunny shots — green shoots, blooming buds, and muddy boots — but for now, it’s just snow, snow, and more snow. Blame it on the groundhogs! In the meantime, we’re making the most of winter and hope others will come share in the beauty and quiet it brings. Whether you come for the skiing, snowshoeing, or simply to warm up by the fire with a hot drink, there’s something cozy and special about this snowy season.
