Fall On The Farm

Fall is almost here, and with it comes a refreshing change in the air. We’ve been busy on the farm, making the most of the season’s bounty. The vegetable gardens have been particularly generous this year — we’ve harvested an abundance of tomatoes, zucchini, cucumbers, squash, and more. Our famous Plum Jam is already jarred and ready, a delicious reminder of late summer’s sweetness. It’s always a highlight of the season, and we love sharing it with guests who come to visit.

The grapes are just about ready now, and we’re looking forward to picking them in the next week or so. Perhaps we’ll even make a small batch of grape jelly. Although our vibrant summer flowers have faded, we’re excited for the arrival of the mums, which bring such lovely autumn color to the garden beds and porches.

There’s also a lot of cleanup happening in the vegetable gardens as we prepare the soil for garlic planting in October — an important tradition that sets us up for next year’s harvest. This year, we also took on a big project: replacing the clapboards on the back of the house. The original ones from 1855 had served their time, and while we tried to match the new ones closely, they’re just slightly different — a subtle nod to the farm’s long history and ongoing renewal.

The cooler temperatures are a welcome relief after the heat of summer, and they make it the perfect time to visit. Whether you want to explore the changing foliage, help out in the garden, or just relax and enjoy the peaceful countryside, we’d love to welcome you for a stay at our farm this fall. There’s always something to see, taste, or do — and plenty of charm around every corner.
